The problem

Ontario residents do not have direct access to their Health Records

They can request copies of health records through their healthcare providers, such as family doctors, specialists, or hospitals. This often involves submitting a formal request and usually takes considerable time to process.

Why does it matter?

In emergencies, especially while traveling abroad, quick access to the health information such as medications, allergies, conditions, family and hospitalization history is crucial for decision-making.

One of the greatest challenges with Emergency Medicine is that the patient visits are often not planned and having access to their Medications and List of Conditions is very crucial.

Another important challenge is the ability to access the data when needed for making decisions.

Problem Statement

How might we enable Ontario residents to securely access their electronic health records with ease?

The Ministry of Health is prioritizing digital health access for patients and families.

Health records contain data from multiple organizations, requiring users to contact each individually through official protocols.

Proposed solution

A Mobile App - designed to provide convenient and secure access to one's medical records whenever needed.

User research

Digital Gaps and Bureaucratic Hurdles cause unnecessary delay in accessing records

Interviews with 15 individuals aged 20–70 revealed key insights into age-specific challenges and priorities.

Pain Points & Frustrations

01

Access Difficulty

At present, accessing health records is a cumbersome task with no provision of digital access.

02

Protocol Dependency

To access specific records, users need to rely on their family doctor or clinic to raise the requests.

03

Long Waiting Time

Users may experience significant waiting times to receive their health records from government entities.

04

Scattered Records

Managing and accessing health records for all family members in one place is challenging.

Information Architecture

Identifying key features

After brainstorming, we shortlisted the key features and essential information to display. Then information grouping was done to organize the content into a structured hierarchy.

Ideation

User Flows

Based on research outcomes, two important tasks were prioritized for prototyping

Accessing Existing Records

Task: Accessing Family Member's Immunization Record (Hepatitis B)

02

Adding a New Record

Task: Add a new record for a family member
